Our story

Our story begins with humble beginnings and continues to the thriving present day.

2006 - Started as Ethical Nation

Recognising the necessity for a distinct certification process to accurately measure and define levels of carbon management and reporting, Ethical Nation spearheaded the development of the NCZ programme.

2010/11 - World's first carbon neutral service programme

Working with a series of early adopters, Ethical Nation created the first Lifecycle Assessment (LCA) based carbon management programme in the FM sector to ensure contracted services could be delivered as carbon neutral, and all on-site service-related emissions are reported on a client-by-client basis.

2022 – After years of development, NCZ emerged

Committed to aiding businesses understand their carbon footprint, through measurement, management, and reduction, by leveraging innovative technology solutions, NCZ officially launched to offer a streamlined and accessible approach for companies in all sectors and geographical regions to embark on their journey to net zero.

2023 – NCZ invested in innovative technology and launched into the UAE

Investing in the NCZ portal, enabled carbon footprint assessment and reporting processes to be streamlined. Meaning all organisational, operational and supply-chain emissions can be efficiently managed through each phase of the certification programme.

With the growing number of global clients, NCZ launched successfully into the United Arab Emirates and hosted its first Fringe Event alongside COP28.

2024 – The growing team support SMEs through to large global corporations, spanning industries and sectors globally

The certification programme, plus carbon managed events and services, provides businesses with a competitive edge, commercially, socially, and environmentally.

January saw the world’s first carbon conscious soccer awards event, that NCZ benchmarked and offset in collaboration with the Dubai Sports Council and Globe Soccer Awards.

CEO and Sustainability Entrepreneur

“Feel the fear and do it anyway.”

I have been a sustainability entrepreneur for the past 18 years. In 2006 I founded a carbon management consultancy and have been lucky enough to work with many early adopters and industry leaders across a wide range of industries.

  • Creating the world’s first carbon neutral cleaning system in 2010.
  • Further developing the system to enable carbon neutral services across multiple sectors and countries with the NCZ team.
  • Tripling NCZ revenue in year 2 (team effort).

Family life, horse riding, e-karting.

My horse Mylo is an Irish Sports Horse. He is now retired from competing (so am I) but in his day he was a very successful eventer. We lost our beloved border collie two years ago; he was my wing man and is very missed.

“If you haven’t clearly thought through and defined where you want to go and why, you probably won’t get there. But probably even worse, you will get there and realise it’s not where you wanted to get to after all…”

I have extensive experience in operations management, business improvement, and business growth.

  • Joining the military when most people around me didn’t think I had the staying power.
  • Getting on a plane with a single 25kg case of luggage and setting up a life in Dubai.
  • Doing a 31 hour ultra triathlon having been told I am diabetic and would need to be very reserved with sports and not take any risks.

Endurance sports – Ironman, Ultra Marathons, cycling, anything where ones first thought is “ooooh that will take some mental stamina” or “ooooh that will hurt.”

We have Abi dog as our family pet, a desert mongrel. Plus, 2 rats (Rosie and Riley) and a crested Geko (Garry).
